Miami-Dade County Public Schools created The Parent Academy to bridge the gap between home and school by connecting parents to valuable resources and information, which answers questions on topics that impact children’s lives, including helping children learn, parenting skills, financial management, and health and wellness.
The Parent Academy supports parents in becoming more involved in their children’s education and empowers them to set and achieve personal empowerment goals for higher education and career advancement by providing free, year-round workshops, classes and events at schools, libraries, parks, colleges, private businesses and neighborhood centers across the county.
Parents can participate in workshops and classes that are aligned to their needs and convenient to their homes and workplaces. Educational Records/Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act - (FERPA)

In order to comply with federal legislation and Board Policy 8330, the documents listed below are provided for your use. 

  • Technical Assistance Paper with information and guidelines for compliance with federal legislation and Board Policy

  • Directory Information Opt-Out Form, FM-6479, in three languages used to give parents the opportunity to decline the release of directory information 

  • Unlisted Telephone Number Notification, FM-6603, in three languages used by parents to indicate whether or not their home telephone number is listed and whether or not the District may provide their telephone number in response to a directory request
